Join us at Big Hollow Recreation Area for a morning of fishing! No experience is required—people of all ages and abilities are welcome. Attend a 30-minute seminar for tips and tricks, then apply your knowledge while enjoying the natural beauty of the area.
As part of the Hook & Hunt Mentorship Program, the event is open to anglers of all skill levels. Bait and tackle will be provided, with mentors available to offer guidance.
Schedule:
• 8:00 A.M. – 9:00 A.M. = Registration
• 8:30 A.M. = Seminar: Tips and Tricks Demonstration by Expert Anglers
• 9:00 – 11:00 A.M. = Fish!
Event Location: Big Hollow Recreation Area – 152nd Avenue, Sperry, IA 52650 @ ADA jetty next to the canoe launch

The Mayday! Marathon! will take place on Saturday, May 17th, at 9:00 A.M. at Starr’s Cave Park and Preserve. The 1-mile run/walk will begin at 9:00 A.M., followed by the 5K and half marathon at 9:30 A.M.
This will be DMCC’s first-ever half marathon! The event is open to all fitness levels, from beginners to experienced runners.
All proceeds will support DMCC programs that serve underprivileged populations, including at-risk youth, the elderly, individuals with disabilities, and those with mental health challenges.

Ignite your senses and gather around the hot coals for an unforgettable evening at Starr’s Cave
Nature Center on Thursday, May 29th. From 6:00 to 8:00 PM, we invite you to dive into the
timeless tradition of Dutch oven cooking in the heart of nature.
Whether you're a seasoned camper or simply curious about outdoor cuisine, this hands-on
experience will guide you through the art of crafting delicious meals over a hot coals using
classic cast iron Dutch ovens. Set against the scenic backdrop of the picnic shelter, you’ll prep,
cook, and savor three mouthwatering recipes as the scent of cooking smoke drifts through the air.
Led by new Naturalist Shania, this hands-on workshop offers more than just a cooking lesson—
it’s a chance to slow down, connect with the outdoors, and rediscover the joy of creating food
together under the open sky.
This program is limited to just 12 participants to keep the experience personal and engaging. Be
sure to reserve your spot early, and don’t forget to let us know about any food allergies at the
time of registration.
Cost is $30 per participant.
