Hunters Education Field Day

Hunter education is a mandatory program that is designed to introduce students to several life-long skills that are important to many different types of outdoor recreational opportunities. The course teaches students basic survival and first aid skills, water safety, wildlife identification, the basics of wildlife management, hunting laws and firearm/archery safety. Hunter education also stresses the importance of individual responsibility and outdoor ethics.

Iowa law requires that anyone born after January 1, 1972 must be certified in hunter education before they are eligible to purchase an Iowa hunting license.
To attend this field day, students must complete the online course work at https://www.hunter-ed.com/iowa/. Once you've completed the online portion, print off the field day voucher and bring it with you to class.

I Heart County Parks Fundraising Banquet

The Partners for Conservation Foundation is hosting the second annual I *Heart* County Parks banquet on April 3 at Barn on the Ridge just outside of Burlington to raise funds for Des Moines County Conservation parks and programs. The event will include raffles, games, auctions, and a BBQ dinner. Raffle and auction items include all the gear you need to get outside such as bikes, kayaks, camping and cabin stays, and so much more.

Starr's Cave: Site History, Stories, and Treasures

Join us at Starr’s Cave Nature Center on Saturday, April 5 at 10 am for a special lecture by Des Moines County Historical Society’s Collections and Reference Assistant, Cora Wickham.

In her presentation, Cora will discuss current site features and geology, how Starr’s Cave got its name, the various owners and users of the property, Starr’s Cave Mining Company, rumors of gold in the area, park development, and more!
