N E W S   R E L E A S E

The following route will be closed starting Thursday, May 30th for bridge replacement. Weather permitting, we anticipate the project to last 4 months.

DMC Hwy 99
(immediately south of Hawkeye Road intersection.)

  • 250th Street intersection will remain open.
  • Huron Road intersection will remain open.

 

We are sorry for any inconvenience that this causes, and we appreciate your patience while we improve our roads in Des Moines County.

Investigation of Elevated Lead Levels: Applesauce Pouches (November 2023)

posted 11/8/23 · Public Health As reported in a safety alert issued by FDA on October 28, 2023, the FDA, along with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) and the North Carolina Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services (NCDA&CS) are investigating reports of four children with elevated blood lead levels, indicating potential acute lead toxicity. The NCDHHS investigation identified WanaBana Apple Cinnamon Fruit Puree pouches as a potential shared source of exposure. As part of their investigation, NCDHHS analyzed multiple lots of WanaBana Apple Cinnamon Fruit Puree, detecting extremely high concentrations of lead.
