Environmental Health
The staff for the Environmental Division of the Des Moines County Public Health Department provides inspection and disease prevention services designed to control the factors that are responsible for the spread of disease through food, water, and other environmental exposures.
We strive to enhance the quality of life in our community through education, by performing routine inspections and investigations, taking enforcement action when warranted, and interacting with state, federal and local agencies when appropriate.

- Administer the following IDNR grants:
- Private well water testing for coliform bacteria and nitrates.
- Administer state grant to abandon or rehabilitate private water wells.

Tanning Facilities
The Des Moines County Public Health Environmental staff conducts annual inspections of all permitted tanning facilities in Des Moines County (641 Iowa Administrative Code Chapter 38 & 46). This includes, but is not limited to, public and private businesses that charge citizens to tan in their beds.
