Winter Camp

Des Moines County Conservation is hosting Winter Camp on December 27th from 9:00 AM to noon for children ages 7-9! Join us for a fun-filled morning learning how animals survive the winter, going on a winter scavenger hunt, and wrapping up with gooey s’mores by the campfire. Be sure to dress warmly, as we’ll be outside for most of camp. The cost is $25 per camper, and spots are limited, so sign up today!

Ugly Sweater 5K Shuffle & Mistletoe Mile

Ugly Sweater 5K Shuffle & Mistletoe Mile

Date: Saturday, December 28th

Time: 9:00 AM – Mistletoe

Mile Start & 9:30 AM – Ugly Sweater 5K Shuffle Start

Ages: All ages and abilities welcome!

Event Details: Get into the holiday spirit while supporting a great cause! Whether you're running, walking, hiking, or simply enjoying the social environment, the Ugly Sweater 5K Shuffle & Mistletoe Mile is a fun and active way to celebrate the season.

Event Options: Choose between the 5K or the 1-mile distance.

5K Course: The scenic out-and-back route begins at Starr’s Cave Nature Center and turns around at the Highway 61 overpass.

Proceeds: 50% of the event proceeds will benefit The Self Reliance Group, while the remaining 50% will support our environmental education programs. The Self Reliance Group is actively engaged in building community partnerships, services and programming in Southeast Iowa to assist individuals in managing and caring for their physical health, intellectual disabilities, and/or mental health diagnoses. Our programming will supplement already existing services to create broader opportunities. www.self-reliance-inc.com/the-group 

Timing: We will have unofficial timing. No awards will be given. The focus is on community and conservation!

Online registration is preferred: 

1-mile $10 

5K day-of registration will increase from $15 to $20.

Hot Cocoa will be available for $2 per cup.

Winter Camp

Campers will dive into winter survival skills, including shelter building, fire building, and animal tracking. We’ll wrap up around the campfire, savoring warm, delicious pudgy pies.
